Adidas Ozweego Pride

Part of a series of rainbow looks released by Adidas in June to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the US, the Adidas Ozweego Pride colorway takes a classic look from the 90s and gives it a contemporary political twist. In a further nod to the LGBTQ+ community, the shoe is built in a unisex design, and can be purchased in the full range of adult sizes, men’s or women’s. The low-top mesh and suede upper is a soft off-white with bright white laces, and provides a stark contrast for the gorgeous rainbow fade along the shoe’s retro-style chunky sole. Futuristing tubing threaded through the white upper feature subtle hints of orange, yellow, blue, and purple, and loop up over the heel to create a makeshift pull-tab. The Adidas stripes are present in tasteful hints of yellow and blue that don’t distract from the rich, rainbow colors in the sole. But this shoe isn’t only about looks. The mesh materials in the upper are highly breathable and make this a well-ventilated shoe, perfect for standing out in the hot June sun. The addition of Adiprene foam cushioning in the forefoot and heel and an EVA midsole give this colorway additional support without making the shoe feel heavy or chunky. This is definitely more of a casual shoe than an athletic shoe, but the cushioning and durable rubber of the rainbow outersole make this passable as a light running or workout shoe. But, of course, the primary purpose for buying and wearing this shoe is the tasteful statement that it makes, no matter where or how you wear it. Cleaning white shoes can sometimes be a pain, but a damp cloth or sponge is all you need to polish the uppers back to their original clean white.
