Description
As part of its ongoing collaboration with the Netflix cult horror hit Stranger Things, Nike released a collection of sneakers in the school colors of Hawkins High. Part of the Hawkins drop, the Nike Tailwind 79 gets it silhouette from the Nike Tailwind, a classic Nike running shoe that was incredibly popular in the mid-80s, the decade in which the shoe takes place. The materials, however, are firmly 21st century. The body of the shoe is a comfortable and stylish mix of mesh and suede. The shoe’s main color is a bright forest green, with the classic Nike swoosh in orange across the sides and a thick white sole. Stranger Things fans will recognize the greed, orange, and white color scheme as the school colors of Hawkins High School. For those who missed the reference, the school’s mascot, the tiger, appears on the heel of the shoe in a retro-style patch that also features a “Hawkins High School” detail. In typical Air design, the shoes feature an Air infused midsole to provide extra comfort, and tongue sports some tasteful Nike x Stranger Things co-branding. Shying away from gaudy labels or kitchy logos, these shoes are perfect for fans of the shoe, but look good (and authentic) enough to be worn by anyone who is a fan of the retro-look. The Tailwind, along with a Nike Cortez and a Nike Blazer, are part of the Hawkins High Collection, and are priced on the Nike website at $120, though they are available elsewhere online for a wide range of prices. Stranger Things fans who also appreciate the Tailwind silhouette will be pleased to know that the Tailwind has also been released in a Stranger Things inspired 4th of July Collection. Released as part of the first drop in the Nike x Stranger Things collaboration, these shoes will only be sold in a limited quantity, so be sure to get yours before it’s too late!
